The Things That Scare You
Hiro Boga | August 20th, 2009
Make a great circle
A hundred feet around.
Drop in it all the things
that scare you.
Fly into the air
five hundred feet
a thousand feet.
Higher–ten thousand feet.
Ten thousand feet.
E x p a n d to fill the sky.
Look down at your circle.
How does the center shape
the boundary?
See the things that scare you
held safely
in the circle’s embrace.
See the boundary
become the center.
Goblins and ghosts flow back
in time
become children, toddlers, beloved
babies.
Return, fly home
with the sun in your wings.

(Let’s talk: What are you afraid of? How do you meet your fear?)

Lovely post – especially since I chose the word “fearless” as my word for 2009 (and have been tested by that choice ever since).
I created a little video about the fears I hoped to face… http://fumblingforwords.blogspot.com/2009/01/fearless.html
Heather Plett´s last post … Welcome to the party. Are you a guest or a host?
Thanks, Heather. I just watched your wonderful video, which left me so inspired! :-)

I love this. I love the idea of flying above our fears and seeing them in perspective.
Bridget´s last post … Woo-woo, then laundry, then more woo-woo
so many things scare me. too many, maybe. i love the idea of putting them safely into a circle and looking at them from far above – how tiny they are from here!
thanks :)
