Ever since I can remember, I’ve seen many layers of reality simultaneously. There’s the miraculous world we live in, with its treasures of human and natural life. Nested within and around it are subtle-energy worlds, full of ancestral stories, wise Devas, councils of selves, playgrounds, labyrinths – everything you can conceive or create. Within you. And embracing you.

These subtle-energy worlds are as vivid and real to my inner sight as the physical world. I work and play in them as freely, and I know them better than I know my own backyard. These energy worlds have their own natural laws, and their own culture and customs. Gravity has no power there. Time and Space function very differently there… and the laws of physics, which shape our experience of everyday reality, do not apply.

For the past thirty years, I’ve worked with thousands of people to co-create the lives and businesses they desire. I’ve helped them reach new levels of creative intensity, prosperity, productivity, and autonomy. I’ve helped them cross the border between the subtle-energy worlds and physical reality many, many times, until the crossing becomes as natural as inhaling and exhaling. As natural as the tide sweeping onto the shore, then back to the sea.

The not-so-distant past:

My spiritual curiosity and thirst for freedom have taken me on adventures around the world – through many different positions, academic programs and leadership roles.

In an earlier incarnation of my career, I founded and directed the Spiritual Awareness Centre, a teaching and research facility offering programs in intuitive training, energy technologies, healing, and spiritual development.

I’ve earned degrees in psychology and creative writing, and have taught in the MFA Program in Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia, as well as at writers’ festivals and retreats around the world. I’ve been Writer-in-Residence for CBC Radio, Canada’s national broadcaster. And for more than a decade, I was Managing Editor of an award-winning literary publishing company.

My published work includes a novel and a collection of poetry, as well as essays, fiction and poetry in anthologies, newspapers and literary journals. I’ve served on national arts juries in Canada. My writing has earned several arts fellowships and awards. It gives me great joy to share my most recent writing on my blog, and to read & respond to the fascinating reactions to each post.

For the past forty years, my home has been in the Pacific Northwest. The beauty of the natural world inspires me – its rhythms nourish and sustain me. I am deeply grateful to live in this pristine, sacred place, and to share its beauty through in-person retreats at my home in Nanaimo, on Vancouver Island.

I’m moved and delighted by music (from Leonard Cohen to Bach); books that speak to my heart (Czeslaw Milosz’s The Book of Luminous Things is a favorite); the natural world (especially the sea); loving friends, and flowing conversation.

My two sons, both grown now and happily creating their own lives, are the suns of my heart.

What is energy alchemy?

It is the process of transforming and shaping your physical world by precisely transforming the subtle energy matrix in which it is rooted.

We all have a natural ability to effect transformation, in ourselves and in the world around us — each of us is born with the gift of creativity and healing. Some people are more gifted in this area than others but transformation is a quality of soul that can be developed, enhanced and more fully embodied.

Intuition, attunement and alignment are some of the soul qualities that help to effect transformation. As does the ability to work collaboratively with the powers of wholeness, including the creative matrix of the universe, and powerful beings who inhabit subtle energy realms.

How does it work?

Underlying our material reality are other, subtler dimensions of energy. Different spiritual traditions around the world use culturally specific terminology to refer to these dimensions; and each offers its own map of non-physical realms.

Many traditions, from Hindu and Tibetan tantra to South American shamanism, offer precise and detailed descriptions of a wide range of non-physical dimensions and their inhabitants. Included in these are descriptions of human electromagnetic energy fields and energy vortexes known as the chakras. These are the energy dimensions that are closest to our world, and that exist at the interface between energy and matter.

To a skilled energy alchemist, these fields are clearly visible, and can be accurately described. They can also be transformed in very precise ways.

Everything that exists in the physical world for a positive, evolutionary purpose has an energetic counterpart, which holds the pattern for its perfect unfolding. I call these pattern-holders Devas, a Sanskrit word that means “Shining Ones.”

By looking at the energy configurations that underlie whatever issue you want to address, and working with the beings that hold the pattern for the perfect unfolding of that aspect of your life or business, I help you reshape the terrain of your life.

Can you predict the future?

The short answer is, no. An energy alchemy session looks at where you are in your life right now, how you got there, and what is likely to happen if you continue on the path that you’re taking at the moment.

During a session we can take a detailed look at different options that are available to you, and review each potential path, so that you can make informed choices. Ultimately, your choices and actions shape your future. If you don’t like the future you are creating, you can change it by changing what you do in the present.

What kinds of issues can I get help with?

An energy alchemy session can address any issue that concerns you: from stress factors in your life to your emotional and spiritual state; your relationships; finances; creative or business projects; your relationship to power and authority; your ability to trust your own intuition and inner guidance; opportunities and risks that you face in your career; your relationship with your soul and the Sacred; access to your creativity — to name just a few.

How long is a single session?

Sessions are scheduled for one hour, although you may find that your issue is resolved in a shorter period of time.

How many sessions will it take to resolve my problem?

It depends on the nature of the issue, on where you are in the arc of your inner trajectory, and on how you process change. Most of my clients experience significant transformation after a single session. Yet you may find that with a complex issue — one that is deeply rooted — lasting change takes longer to achieve. Obviously, there is no correlation between your value as a sacred human being, and the speed with which you change.

Change happens more quickly and precisely when working with energy — issues that might take years to address through conventional therapies are often transformed in a much shorter period of time.

I’ve been trying to deal with my issues for a long time. Nothing that I’ve tried so far has worked. How often would I need to see you, to get results?

Without knowing the nature of your particular problem, I can’t make specific suggestions. However, generally speaking, when addressing a complex issue or long-standing pattern, it’s most effective to work together regularly, for a period of time. We might begin with a six-session package of The Story Tree Sessions, and assess your progress at the end of that period.
